Hey CommitPool family, the team is excited to share our 3rd weekly update with you!
This Past Week
Little by little, buidl by buidl, the CommitPool MVP is coming together! In week 3, we:
Completed an initial draft of the the MVP CommitPool smart contract (as a reminder, our MVP ignores the “Pool” part of our name, optimizing for simplicity over power while we make sure that the core mechanisms work).
Made substantial progress on the mechanism for getting user activity data into our contract (the oracle problem). We had to abandon our initial approach using Chainlink to fetch data from Strava Clubs, because the Clubs API doesn’t include an activity timestamp. Now, we’re pursuing a couple alternatives, including a different Chainlink approach as well as using our mobile app as the oracle — more to come here over the coming week.
Began work on the mobile app. Our current path is to use KERNEL fellow Paul Cowgill’s Tasit SDK to get web3 functionality in a React Native app.
In addition to the dev work above, we also got some great feedback from our user interviews. We didn’t quite hit our goal of 4-6, but nonetheless we were able to iterate on our Figma prototype based on the input we received.
Next Week (Week 4)
Our goals for next week are to:
Find a minimally viable solution to our oracle problem (as described above)
Bring together the pieces into a functioning MVP application
Continue learning and iterating on our UX design
Setting the stage for the following week’s KERNEL Midway Pitch Day
Asks
help recruiting for our user interviews
(repeat from last week) Continued input on our initial architectural decisions and how we’re navigating the UX // privacy // decentralization trade-off space.
(repeat from last week) Consultation on potential sustainability and economic viability. While our primary focus now is on building something that works and that people want to use, we are striving to make decisions in the short run in the context of a longer term perspective. We have some thoughts, but any guidance here will be immensely valuable.
In commitment,
Spencer and the CommitPool team
